Placement of fence
Generally a fence may be located in an interior side yard and a rear yard. There is no set back requirement but the fence must be located completely within your property lines. A fence is also permitted within a front yard only if it is set-back a minimum of thirty (30) feet from the front lot line. For corner lots the same as above applies with the exception of the side yard adjoining a street, where the fence must be set-back a minimum of thirty (30) feet from the street side property line.
Type of fence
Chain link, open picket and shadow box (alternating pickets) arc permitted types of fence. Solid and other privacy type fencing is only allowed when the fence placement is set-back a minimum of five (5) feet from the property line. Barbed wire and electric fence is prohibited.
Height of fence
The maximum height for a fence is six (6) feet.
Building permit for fence
A building permit is required for the installation of a fence. We will need the following information to process your request:
Inspection
A final inspection will be required upon completion of the installation. Arrangements for scheduling an inspection can be made by calling the Village Hall at least 24 hours in advance. For information or inspection requests, call (847) 639-3170.
