
FOX RIVER GROVE VILLAGE PROFILE
Fox River Grove, the gateway to McHenry County, is a small town of 1.65 square miles with a population of 4,862. It offers a relaxing blend of hometown flavor, high quality public services, and a variety of business and recreational opportunities. Forty-five miles northwest of downtown Chicago, Fox River Grove is situated in the southeast corner of McHenry County and southwest Lake County. The Village borders State Route 14 and U.S. Route 22 and is 10 miles north of Interstate 90. METRA Rail provides commuter transportation service to downtown Chicago.
Major employers are Dominick’s, McDonalds, School District 3, Grove Plating and Midwest Construction Products. Redevelopment efforts are progressing in the local shopping center and downtown district. The Cary-Grove Area Chamber of Commerce provides assistance to small and home-based businesses.

Housing opportunities include converted cottages along the river, quiet established neighborhoods, suburban subdivisions and upscale developments – many are located in and around public parks.
Fox River Grove maintains its small-town appeal with specialty shops lining Route 14 offering specialty sewing, cycling, home decorating, musical instruments, laundry, and various restaurants. The local shopping center includes a supermarket, banks, restaurants, hardware store, chiropractor, specialty skin care, wild bird center and various office businesses. Dining options include a supper club, various fast food outlets, and a Mexican eatery.
Recreational opportunities abound. Residents enjoy approximately 130 acres of parks including Picnic Grove Park along the Fox River, which hosts our annual fireworks celebration and boasts the area’s longest sledding hill. Thousands come each year to watch the Norge Winter and Summer Ski Jump Competitions. The all volunteer Recreation Council runs programs in baseball, basketball, softball, soccer, volleyball, as well as events such as a 5K run. Other recreational activities are bowling, hiking, biking, boating, water-skiing and fishing on the Fox River.
Area public educational institutions include Algonquin Road Grade School, Countryside Grade School, Fox River Grove Middle School, Station Middle School, Cary Grove High School, Barrington High School, McHenry County Community College and Harper College.
Health care facilities available to residents are Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, Northern Illinois Medical Center in McHenry, Centegra/Memorial Medical Center in Woodstock and Sherman Health Care in Crystal Lake.
